Saving money becomes increasingly important for older adults, especially those living on retirement savings and fixed incomes. Luckily, many businesses in Houston are committed to supporting seniors by offering exclusive discounts on everything from dining and shopping to entertainment and experiences. We’ve compiled a list of establishments that offer senior discounts in Houston to help older adults enjoy the city on a budget.

Dining Discounts in Houston For Seniors

  1. Denny's 55+ Menu consists of senior-friendly breakfast portions for customers aged 55. Most locations also honor a 15% senior discount on select in-store or online orders for AARP members.
  2. IHOP has a special 55+ menu that provides budget-friendly dining options for seniors.
  3. Luby's Senior LuAnn meal is available for customers aged 55+ with a valid ID. This includes a half portion of any LuAnn entrée, one roll, and two sides. The menu selections may vary depending on the store location. Available after 3 PM only.
  4. Outback Steakhouse gives AARP members a 10% senior discount on their lunch or dinner orders. The discount does not apply to select purchases and can only be redeemed once per order or table.
  5. Perry’s Steakhouse offers a special menu for seniors aged 65+. It consists of a three-course meal for only $39 with six choices per course. Available every day before 6 PM for dine-in reservations only. 

Retail Discounts in Houston For Seniors

  1. Michaels offers a 10% senior discount for all customers aged 55 or older. When shopping in-store, show a valid ID at checkout. The discount will be applied if you have a Michaels Rewards account. Otherwise, you can register for an account for free. The senior discount is also available for online purchases. 
  2. Walgreens lets customers aged 55+ save  20% on eligible products during Senior Discount Days. To take advantage of this, you must sign up for a free myWalgreens membership. Available for online and in-store purchases. Check their official website regularly for the next Senior Discount Day (source). 
  3. Ross Dress For Less stores give out a 10% senior discount to customers aged 55+ every Tuesday. To avail of the discount, show a store associate your valid ID at checkout.
  4. Kohl’s offer a 15% senior discount to customers aged 60 and above. Only available on Wednesdays and for in-store purchases. Don’t forget to bring your valid ID.

Museum and Theme Park Discounts For Seniors

  1. Bayoud Bend Collection and Gardens offers a $2 senior discount on general admission tickets. To qualify, you must be 65 or older with a valid ID. Bayou Bend is only open from Wednesday to Sunday.
  2. Buffalo Soldiers National Museum offers a 50% senior discount on general admission. The entrance is always free every Thursday from 1 PM to 5 PM. A valid ID is required.
  3. Children’s Museum Houston offers $2 off admission tickets to seniors aged 65+ who can provide a valid ID. Entrance is free for all visitors from 5 PM to 8 PM every Tuesday.
  4. Downtown Aquarium is offering a senior discount on tickets to the Aquarium Adventure Exhibit. This does not include tickets for rides, the Stingray Reef, or the All-Day Adventure Pass. Available for visitors 65+ or older with a valid ID.
  5. Holocaust Museum Houston lets seniors 65 or older save $6 off general admission tickets. On Thursdays from 2 PM to 5 PM, all visitors can enter the museum for free.
  6. Houston Toy Museum offers $4 off general admission fees to senior visitors. SNAP EBT cardholders with valid ID are also eligible for $3 entrance tickets per person (max of 4 family members).
  7. Houston Zoo is offering a 20% senior discount to visitors 65 years old and above. You must purchase tickets online because they are no longer sold on-site. 
  8. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) offers discounted entrance tickets to seniors aged 65+ with valid ID. Admission is always free every Thursday.
  9. Space Center Houston lets visitors aged 62+ purchase admission tickets at a discounted price. The cost per admission is even lower if you buy tickets online and in advance. Seniors with valid ID will also save 10% at the SpaceTrader Gift Shop.
  10. Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) offers a senior discount to visitors who are 62 years old and above. General Admission is free for all guests on Tuesdays from 5 PM to 8 PM. Make sure to bring your valid ID.

Movie and Theatre Discounts For Seniors

  1. Alley Theatre at Meredith J. Long Theatre Center offers discounted show tickets to guests aged 65 and above. The discount price varies depending on the day of the show you’re attending. Go to the Guest Services area at the venue and provide a valid ID to receive your senior ticket. For online purchases, use the promo code SENIOR78 during checkout.
  2. Cinemark offers a senior discount to guests aged 62 or older with valid ID. Sometimes you can get extra savings on specific days. Check your nearest movie theater location for the next Senior Discount Day.
  3. AMC Theatres give out a senior discount all day for visitors who are 60 years old and above. Visit your local AMC and bring a valid ID with proof of age.
  4. Houston Ballet is offering senior discounts on select shows during its regular subscription season. Guests who are 65 or older are eligible for lower ticket prices when they buy them at least 90 minutes before the start of these performances. A valid ID is required upon purchase. 
  5. Regal Cinemas offers senior discounts on most show tickets to guests who are 60 or older. When visiting your local movie theatre, bring a valid ID with proof of age.

Hotel Discounts For Seniors

  1. Blossom Hotel Houston offers a 15% senior discount to guests 62+. This package includes 24-hour access to the hotel’s Peloton Studio and LG laundry facility, 15% off their onsite spa services, and 15% off their best available standard room rate.
  2. DoubleTree by Hilton Houston Medical Center Hotel offers a 7% senior discount for visitors 65 years of age and older. The senior rate can be used to book a maximum of two rooms.
  3. Omni Hotel Houston offers a senior rate to guests aged 55 or older with valid ID. Call their nearest hotel to confirm that they honor this discount.

Transportation Discounts For Seniors

METRO Houston offers a discounted fare card or day pass to seniors aged 65 to 69 who provide valid proof of age. If you are 70 years old and above, you can apply for a free METRO fare card.

AARP Membership Discounts

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is a non-profit organization that offers paid annual memberships for people 50 or older. This organization gives its members exclusive access to discounts on restaurants, groceries, travel, insurance, health and wellness, auto services, and more. Visit its website for more information.
