I am the daughter of two former residents of this facility. There were numerous times I had to remind the staff that I did not work there and that they needed to provide the care and service that was being paid for. Unfortunately for the residents there was a constant problem with understaffing which resulted in poor quality of care. I witnessed inadequate employee training (ex: improper transferring & assistance with ambulation, HIPAA violations, limited COVID protocols - either no masks or improper wearing of masks by staff & no available rapid test kits when there were active cases of COVID in the building), medication mismanagement, an active fire alarm when no one alerted residents for 45 minutes if they were to evacuate or stay in place, failure of the emergency alert system building wide with no backup plan in place for residents to get help if needed, errors in food service preparation for medically documented dietary needs, employees not engaging with residents during the 2 hour checks (which were often actually 3-5 hours apart), failure of staff to recognize & follow a legal conservatorship, weekly cleaning of resident space was hit or miss with family members often having to reclean because the floors were so nasty, bagged trash left unemptied. All concerns were brought to the attention of management and were often left unresolved. The up-front marketing presentation was certainly a case of over promising and under delivering. Some of the amenities listed in the marketing brochure were never made available - such as an on-site market where residents could purchase items such as toilet paper, hygiene products, etc. The facility NEVER met what our family was promised for the high price being charged. I found upper management of this organization to lack the compassion and ethics that are boasted about on the website. I believe in truth in advertising and transparency, and you will not get it at The Blake of Kingsport.
