Our parent organization, United Methodist Retirement Homes (UMRH), a not-for-profit organization, was created in 1955 when 13 senior adults chose a better retirement for themselves. Now, UMRH is comprised of three communities, over 1250 residents and 650 employees.
Cypress Glen was established in 1987 in Greenville, North Carolina and remains the only continuing care retirement community in the area. Since the beginning, Cypress Glen has continually strived to be one of the most modern and refined communities in the state.
Cypress Glen is owned and operated by United Methodist Retirement Home with support from Life Care Services, both of which are dedicated to financial stability and resident happiness throughout their retirement years.
What started as a vision in the late 1970's, Cypress Glen became the first community for older adults to escape from some of their concerns and daily responsibilities, allowing residents to focus on their independence and life passions.
The city of Greenville originally competed with five other communities before June 1980, when the Methodist Conference voted for our current location. After achieving numerous donations from individuals, Cypress Glen broke ground on construction on April 28, 1985. A little over two years later, on July 19, 1987, our community was consecrated as a work of love and passion for those we would serve.
We have been growing ever since beginning with a 10-bed Skilled Nursing and 13-bed Assisted Living Healthcare Unit opening in March 1990, a 60-bed Healthcare Center opening in April 1996, five Independent Living cottages completed in July 1996, and a 30-unit apartment wing accepted new residents in 1998.
Cypress Glen continued to listen to the residents and future residents, renovating common areas and adding on several amenities in 2005 such as the 12-room Memory Care Cottage, new apartments, and a larger dining room. Further enhancements came in 2014 with the addition of our Wellness Center and renovations to the café and Four Seasons Room.
As we continue to grow, we will always strive to be an ideal community to live for those who wish to remain independent throughout their retirement in an active, engaging, and warm environment.
