T. Edwards of Culpeper, VA, dreamed of establishing a residential community to care for older adults. His dream was realized in 1945, when the Baptist General Association of Virginia voted to open a community in Culpeper. Thus began Lifespire of Virginia, an organization whose name has become synonymous with exceptional retirement living.
Today, the early vision of Dr. Edwards lives on in Lifespire of Virginia’s four communities: Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community, Lakewood Manor in Richmond, The Glebe in Daleville, and The Chesapeake in Newport News.
The Chesapeake opened its doors in 1969 and quickly became recognized as a premier senior community on the Virginia peninsula. The Community transitioned to a continuing care retirement community in the late 1990s and totally redesigned its campus with the addition of new resident buildings, cottages, and an impressive community center. Construction was completed in 2004 and today the Community continues to provide a warm and welcoming environment on its 40 acre campus, complete with beautiful trees and flowering vegetation. Additional renovations are currently in progress throughout the campus to further enhance the beauty and amenities of The Chesapeake. With Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Support, and Skilled Nursing Care all under one roof, our design is quite popular with residents and family members . At the heart of our mission is our commitment to Dignity in Living™, which reflects the ideals of faith and family in our communities. Our warm, friendly community welcomes people of all faiths, beliefs and traditions
