Two weeks before my discharge, after a successful surgery abrasion opened a clean dry infection. They told me and my family it was a bed sore. The facility's Medical Director ordered a wound culture. The lab report returned to him showed MRSA-Staph and two other bacteria, He ordered an antibiotic that triggered a drug interaction warning: SEVERE. I was given the ineffective Rx anyway. I was not told, nor was my family, my PCP and others treating me about any infection. The infection was not reported, and I was discharged. After initial progress at home, I began having extreme pain and became very weak. Blood work revealed MRSA Staph infection that “has been in your bones for several months and obliterated two vertebrae”- Infectious Disease doctor. I was hospitalized and required surgery to relieve compression of my spinal cord. I have been in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and assisted living since. The neurosurgeon felt my chance of walking again is less than 50%.
