What families are saying

Portola Gardens Assisted Living in San Francisco receives mixed reviews from visitors and residents' families. Many appreciate the facility's beautiful, historic building and well-maintained outdoor spaces, including gardens and walking areas. The staff is frequently praised for being friendly, helpful, and attentive, with some reviewers highlighting their professionalism and the personalized care provided to residents. Activities are generally well-received, with options for socializing, entertainment, and staying informed about current events. However, some reviews point out significant drawbacks. The facility's age is a concern for some, with descriptions of it feeling institutional and outdated, particularly in the rooms and shared bathrooms. Security issues are noted, especially for memory care residents, as there are no secure doors to prevent wandering. Cleanliness is another point of contention, with some visitors finding the facility clean and others describing it as dirty and in need of renovation. Food quality receives mixed feedback, with some praising the variety and availability of snacks, while others have not experienced the meals firsthand. Pricing is considered high by some, though it is noted to be straightforward without hidden fees. The facility's suitability for individuals with mobility issues is questioned, as it may not be fully wheelchair accessible. Overall, while Portola Gardens has its strengths in staff and activities, potential residents and their families should carefully consider the facility's age, security, and specific care needs before making a decision.

Portola Gardens Assisted Living in San Francisco has been the biggest gift to our sister and family. After a near death accident which left our sister with a permanent brain injury, we searched for the perfect facility that would meet her physical, mental and social needs. Our family is beyond grateful for the exquisite care our sister is receiving from the nursing staff, the activities coordinators and especially Lynda Connelly who has been a pillar of support and professionalism alongside the rest of the Executive & Business Staff. As Powers of Attorney for our sister, we are thankful for the loving, mindful, efficient and consistent care our sister receives and love the amount of time Portola Gardens puts into the wellbeing and socializing of their Residents with quality activities and homemade healthy food! If you need to locate your loved one into a facility, Portola Gardens and its beautiful grounds is a beautiful place! Thank you!
