The Selfhelp Home is a not-for-profit retirement community with Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing and Short-Term Rehabilitation services for older Jewish adults in the Chicago area.
Formerly, The Selfhelp Home was a social service agency for Chicago's German Jewish immigrants. In 1950, Selfhelp bought an old Drexel Boulevard Mansion, which can accommodate up to 19 residents. Today, the staff in memory care is available 24 hours per day, seven days per week to support its residents with activities of daily living such as grooming, medication management, and toileting.
Some general features and amenities at The Selfhelp Home include freshly prepared Kosher-style meals (non-certified), daily activities and exercise routines, weekly housekeeping, scheduled transportation, a media room, movie theater, wellness center, sanctuary, gift shop, roof garden and solarium, plus resident and guest parking. While this community has an older building, it shows very well after renovations and offers a very secure, engaging and well-maintained senior housing option. Notably, the community offers six floor plans (studios and 1-bedroom apartments), which range between 337 sq. ft. and 810 sq. ft. Furthermore, each room features individually controlled heat and air conditioning, quartz countertops, solid wood cabinetry, kitchen appliances, and satellite TV, Wifi and emergency call systems.
