My mother really enjoys The Essex House. She has made many new friends and is really enjoying all of the activities which are keeping her quite busy. There is one thing that we are really disappointed with and that is with the menu and meal choices. When we interviewed with the Essex House management before moving mother in, I asked about the dietary options because mom is on a very restrictive low sodium diet. It is critical to her health. We were told that they do not add salt to anything they prepare plus they actually provide low sodium options on their daily menus. Mother is really finding it very difficult to make healthy choices at meal times. The food choices have sodium in them such as bacon, ham, sauerkraut, and sausage. She has already ordered something healthy such as a salad and when the server arrives at her table, she is told the last salad was given to the table before hers. She is finding herself going without and trying to supplement with food in her room.
